. A maggid (Hebrew: מַגִּיד), also spelled as magid, is a traditional Jewish religious itinerant preacher, skilled as a narrator of Torah and religious stories. A preacher of the more scholarly sort was called a darshan (דרשן), and usually occupied the official position of rabbi. The title of maggid mesharim ('a preacher of uprightness'; abbreviated מ"מ) probably dates from the sixteenth century There have long been two distinct classes of leaders in Israel—the scholar and rabbi, and the preacher or maggid. That the popular prophet was sometimes called "maggid" is maintained by those who translate מַגִּיד מִשְׁנֶה (maggid mishne) Zechariah 9:12, by "the maggid repeats" (Löwy, "Beqoret ha-Talmud," p. 50). Like the Greek sophists, the early maggidim based their preaching on questions addressed to them by the multitude. Thus the Pesiqta, the first collection of set speeches, usually begins with "yelammedenu rabbenu" ('let our master teach us'). An excellent example is the Passover Haggadah, which is introduced by four questions; the reciter of the answer is called maggid" When there were no questions, the maggid chose a Biblical text, which was called the petichah (opening) The term maggid comes from Jewish mysticism (see Magid (Jewish mysticism)) and originally referred to a celestial entity, most commonly an angel, who manifests itself as a voice delivering mystical secrets to a kabbalist, or sometimes speaking through the mouths of the chosen ones
This essentially makes makes the " Maggid " identical to earlier " tutelary deities " like the Roman " Genius " that the Christian theologian Augustine equated with the " daemon " of an individual ( Soul )
Gershom Gerhard Scholem (1976). Sabbatai Sevi: The Mystical Messiah. Princeton University Press. pp. 82, 168, 736 etc. ISBN 978-0691018096. Mention of religious figures experiencing maggid encounters: Joseph Karo (see his "Maggid Mesharim" (Preacher of Righteousness): the appearing maggid is the Mishnah herself), Nathan of Gaza, Abraham Yakhini, Rabbi Samson b. Pesah of Ostropol etc
"Biography of the Ramchal". Ramchal Institute, Jerusalem. Archived from the original on 2014-11-05. Retrieved 2014-11-05. At the age of twenty, an inner spiritual voice, a Maggid revealed himself to the Ramchal (Rabbi Moshe Haim Luzzatto of Padua). In a letter to Rabbi Benjamin HaCohen in December 1729, he wrote: "While I was meditating on a Yihud, I fell into a sleep and when I woke, I heard a voice saying: "I have come down to reveal hidden secrets of the Saintly King."

. Ptah /ˈtɑː/ (Ancient Egyptian: ptḥ, reconstructed [piˈtaħ] His name Ptah also spelled as Ptha or Peteh means the “opener” in the sense of “ opener of the mouth ” An ancient Egyptian deity, the god of craftsmen and architects. In the triad of Memphis, he is the husband of Sekhmet and the father of Nefertem. He was also regarded as the father of the sage Imhotep The English name " Egypt " derives from an ancient Egyptian name for Memphis, Hikuptah[citation needed], which means "Home of the Soul of Ptah" The original name of the city was Hiku-Ptah (also Hut-Ka-Ptah) Ptah is an Egyptian creator god who existed before all other things and, by his will, thought the world into existence. It was first conceived by Thought, and realized by the Word: Ptah conceives the world by the thought of his heart and gives life through the magic of his Word. That which Ptah commanded was created, with which the constituents of nature, fauna, and flora, are contained. He also plays a role in the preservation of the world and the permanence of the royal function.
In the Twenty-Fifth Dynasty, the Nubian pharaoh Shabaka would transcribe on a stela known as the Shabaka Stone, an old theological document found in the archives of the library of the temple of the god at Memphis. This document has been known as the Memphite Theology, and shows the god Ptah, the deity responsible for the creation of the universe by thought and by the word.
Ptah is the patron of craftsmanship, metalworking, carpenters, shipbuilders, and sculpture.
He bears many epithets that describe his role in ancient Egyptian religion and its importance in society at the time: Ptah the beautiful face Ptah lord of truth Ptah master of justice Ptah who listens to prayers Ptah master of ceremonies Ptah lord of eternity "Ptah the God who made himself to be God" "Ptah the double being" "Ptah the begetter of the first beginning"
Indeed, the Opening of the Mouth ceremony was believed to been created by Ptah
The opening of the mouth ceremony (or ritual) was an ancient Egyptian ritual described in funerary texts such as the Pyramid Texts
Translating literally as "opening of the mouth," the Egyptian terms for the ritual are wpt-r and um-r. According to Ann Macy Roth, the verb wpi connotes an opening that splits, divides or separates: "it can be used, for example, to describe the separation of two combatants, the dividing of time, or even an analysis or determination of the truth."
The ceremony involved a symbolic animation of a statue or mummy by magically opening its mouth so that it could breathe and speak. There is evidence of this ritual from the Old Kingdom to the Roman Period. Special tools were used to perform the ceremony, such as a ritual adze, an arm shaped ritual censer, a spooned blade known as a peseshkaf, a serpent-head blade, and a variety of other amulets. A calf's leg was also held up to the lips painted on the coffin
Parallels between the Opening of the Mouth and Psalm 51 have been noted
The parallels include:
Mentions of ritual washing with special herbs (Psalm 51:2,7) Restoration of broken bones (verse 8) "O Lord, open thou my lips" (verse 15) Sacrifices (verses 16, 17, and 19)
---------- My mouth is opened by Ptah, My mouth's bonds are loosed by my city-god. Thoth has come fully equipped with spells, He looses the bonds of Seth from my mouth. Atum has given me my hands, They are placed as guardians.
My mouth is given to me, My mouth is opened by Ptah, With that chisel of metal With which he opened the mouth of the gods. I am Sekhmet-Wadjet who dwells in the west of heaven, I am Sahyt among the souls of On. Excerpts From the Pyramid Texts. The Ancient Egyptian Pyramid Texts Translated into English by R. O. Faulkner, Aris & Phillips, Warminster, England, 1969 Hymn 1: I say by Nut, the brilliant, the great: This is my son, my first born, opener of my womb; this is my beloved, with whom I have been satisfiedwww.egyptorigins.org/pyramidhymns.htmNote that the New Testament verse of Matthew 3:17 bears a striking resemblance to the line of hymn 1 Matthew 3:17 - " And a voice from heaven said, “ This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased! ” ============= Notes cf Abydos seals and chisel

. Taw is believed to be derived from the Egyptian hieroglyph representing a tally mark ( Counting ) Note that the lack of a symbol in unary is identical to the empty column representing zero in Babylonian mathematics(Ultimately replaced by a double cunis >> ) This is discussed more in my thread on the history of zero, HEREThe use of Tally marks is thought to date back to between 18,000 BC and 20,000 BC, by way of the Ishango bone, a bone tool and possible mathematical object, dated to the Upper Paleolithic era Egyptian Hieratic on the left, and Hebrew on the right ============ Notes Taw is the letter that the 50 letter " Torah " ELS starts with in " bereshit " ( Genesis 1:1 ), this is discussed in my thread on the number 50 HEREcf " reckon / count " the number of the beast

. Tav is the last letter of the Hebrew word emet, which means 'truth'. The midrash explains that emet is made up of the first, middle, and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet (aleph, mem, and tav: אמת). Sheqer (שקר, falsehood), on the other hand, is made up of the 19th, 20th, and 21st (and penultimate) letters. Thus, truth is all-encompassing, while falsehood is narrow and deceiving. In Jewish mythology it was the word emet that was carved into the head of the golem which ultimately gave it life. But when the letter aleph was erased from the golem's forehead, what was left was "met"—dead. And so the golem died. Ezekiel 9:4 depicts a vision in which the tav plays a Passover role similar to the blood on the lintel and doorposts of a Hebrew home in Egypt. In Ezekiel's vision, the Lord has his angels separate the demographic wheat from the chaff by going through Jerusalem, the capital city of ancient Israel, and inscribing a mark, a tav, “upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.” In Ezekiel's vision, then, the Lord is counting tav-marked Israelites as worthwhile to spare, but counts the people worthy of annihilation who lack the tav and the critical attitude it signifies. In other words, looking askance at a culture marked by dire moral decline is a kind of shibboleth for loyalty and zeal for God" ============== Notes
